By Anthony SanelliThe Seattle Mariners dropped the rubber match against the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday despite Chone Figgins second home run of the season and a good outing from starter Jason Vargas. The loss puts the Mariners at 4-2 on the current 10 game road trip.
Looking back at the weekend, the Mariners offense died down immensely after piling up the run count against the Detroit Tigers. They continued that trend into game one of the series against the Jays but only managed to score just two runs in the last two games of the series. Just throwing this one out here, but Miguel Olivo is quietly on a six-game hitting streak.
Olivo, who is still only hitting .195 on the season, is 7-for-25 with two home-runs in his last seven games. His defense Sunday however was about as disappointing as the resent news that left-handed reliever George Sherrill needs season ending elbow surgery. We'll save that for another story.
Looking forward at the upcoming week, the Mariners take on the Tampa Bay Rays in a four game series before returning back to Safeco Field for series against the Minnesota Twins.
The Mariners need to regain momentum before heading back to Seattle in order to climb the hill that is a huge lack of offensive production at home. Consistency from hitters one through nine has been a problem all season, especially with holes in the four and nine spot. Justin Smoak and Brendan Ryan were given the day off Sunday as their early season struggles have put a damper on the Mariners ability to "string it together."

By Anthony SanelliThe Seattle Mariners had high hopes for Brandon Morrow when the drafted him number five overall back in 2006. A lot of fans are still antagonistic that the Mariners passed on local guy and now a two-time Cy Young winner, Tim Lincecum for the more prototypical power pitcher in Morrow.

In Seattle the 6-foot-3 right hander was moved from the bullpen to the starting rotation, then back to the bullpen, then back to the starting rotation again has now found a home in Toronto's starting rotation. In 2011 Morrow was 11-11 with a 4.72 ERA and 203 strikeouts.
Saturday Morrow had his way with the Mariners lineup. In six scoreless innings of work he gave up just five hits and struck out nine without issuing a single walk, normally his Achilles' heel and picked up his third win against his former team since being traded for Brandon League and minor leaguer Johermyn Chavez before the 2010 season.

By Anthony SanelliDespite the Seattle Mariners winning their last four games and their offense absolutely on a tear this road-trip, there is a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes that deserves mention as well.
Lets take a look at some Mariners topics that are trending, just not as much as Michael Saunders right now.

If it wasn't bad enough that Gutierrez injured himself early on this spring (torn pectoral muscle) in what was suppose to be a bounce back season, a new injury has arose that will certainly be of great concern moving forward. It was reported Friday that Gutierrez has "plantar faciitis" in his heel. An injury that can vary in it's severity but has had it's effect of players who have formely suffered from it.
For a guy like Guiterrez who relies much on his ability to run down balls in the outfield, it is not good news. It's is a nagging pain coming from underneath the thick skin in the heel. Gutierrez is working with specialists and trainers to find the best course of action. If you were wondering when you might see Gutierrez roaming the Mariners outfield again, don't except it to happen anytime soon.

By Anthony SanelliPhil Humber showed us he's not all that perfect (Red Sox rocked him.) Michael Pineda is out for the season, and the Seattle Mariners have won four straight?!
After dropping four games in a row at home, the Mariners have gone on the road and won four straight. They swept the Tigers in Detroit and have now taken game one in the series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Mariners won in exciting fashion Friday night, a 10 inning game that challenged the Mariners to overcome
two, 2-run deficits late in the ball game. Thanks to home runs by Jesus Montero and Michael Saunders, the Mariners were able to make 7th, 9th, and 10th inning rallies.
Early in the ballgame the Mariners could not get anything going against Jays starter Ricky Romero. It wasn't until the sixth inning that the Mariners go their first hit. With a 3-1 lead headed into the seventh Montero homered to cut the Jays lead to one run. Romero was then able to record two outs but could not get out of the inning. Miguel Olivo and Casper Wells with back to back hits helped the Mariners tie the ball game and chase Romero.

By Anthony SanelliTo add insult to injury after the Seattle Mariners swept the Detroit Tigers, outfielder Delmon Young was arrested last night in New York City. The charges against him are aggregated harassment hate-crime.
Young was standing outside of the teams Manhattan hotel around 2:30 am ET when a group of four tourist from Chicago approached him. First the group had passed by a pan-handler on the street then walked towards the hotel, that is when Young allegedly starting yelling anti Semtic remarks according to police.
An altercation began between a member of the group and Young outside and eventually spilled into the hotel lobby. That's when the police were called. The member of the group sustained a few scratches on his elbow but refused any medical attention.
Police also reported that Young was highly intoxicated. He was taken to Roosevelt Hospital to sober up before he was booked and charged with assault in the third degree.
Young was the number one overall pick of the 2003 draft. In recent years he has rounded into a very productive Major League ball player and played a key role in the Tigers World Series run last season. He arrest however continues an unfortunate trend of behavior issues. In 2006 he faced a 50-game suspension after throwing a bat and striking an umpire in the chest.
